Rhizomatous perennial herb, 8-90 cm. Leaves pinnate, auriculate at the base, with 3-7 pairs of oblong-elliptic lateral leaflets and a larger, suborbicular terminal leaflet, all irregularly toothed. Petals white. Siliquae 11-18 mm. Seeds in 2 rows in each loculus, reticulate, with about 25 polygonal cells on each face. Fl. 3-7. Streams, ponds and ditches, s.l.-1650 m.
Temperate Eurasia, N. Africa. Cultivated and introduced into many parts of the world.
