Perennial. Stems few to many, 4-20 cm, erect to ascending-erect. Basal and lower cauline leaves sessile or with petiole up to 3 mm; lamina elliptic-lanceolate, 3-10 x 1-5 mm, entire, minutely scabridulous or with 1-2 minute teeth present on each side, ± glaucous; upper cauline leaves similar but smaller, sessile. Inflorescence 1-few-flowered, paniculate or racemose. Flowers solitary, erect. Bracts similar to upper cauline leaves but smaller, linear. Pedicels slender or thickened, 5-20 mm. Calyx lobes 1.5-5 mm, subulate or linear-lanceolate, glabrous, rarely papillose. Corolla lobes linear-lanceolate, either 10-12 x 2 mm or 5-6 x 1 mm, violet-blue. Ovary globose, c. 2 mm, densely verrucose; style 4-7 mm; stigma 3, c. 2 mm, Capsule globose 2 x 2 mm or narrowly campanulate, 4 x 3 mm, opening by 3 median pores. Seeds ellipsoid, 1 x 0.3-0.4 mm, light brown, shiny.
