Plant stout, stem 40-120 cm tall, erect, 1-2 cm thick at base, usually simple, densely patent-hirsute, densely leafy in lower parts. Leaves shortly hirsute on both sides; basal and lower cauline similar, long-petiolate, oblong to broadly lanceolate, decurrent into a ± winged petiole, coarsely dentate to lobed, lamina 15-20 x 8-10 cm; middle and upper cauline oblong to broadly ovate, amplexicaul. Inflorescence long, dense, spicate. Flowers solitary or 2-4 in clusters, shortly pedicellate, mostly ± nodding. Calyx lobes 7-12 mm, appendages 6-10 mm, shortly hirsute on margin and middle nerve. Corolla broadly campanulate, divided to ½ . Corolla lobes oblong, 7-12 mm erecto-patent, shortly hirsute outside on middle nerve. Style 15-17 mm, stiffly hairy for ¾ of its length. Filament base small, triangular, densely ciliate. Capsule 10 mm diam. Seeds 0·8 x 0·3 mm, light brown, shiny. 2n = 30. Fl. 6-7. Rocks, rocky slopes, 500-1800 m.
