Erect shrub 1-3 m; young branches solid, pubescent; winter buds with 2 outer scales. Leaves ovate to suborbicular, 1-3 x 0,5-2,2 cm, obtuse or acute, base rounded or cordate, bilaterally pubescent. Inflorescence 2-flowered, axillary; peduncles 2-5 mm, slightly longer than petioles; bracts 5-10 mm, elliptic, foliaceous; bracteoles fused to form a cupule which encloses a pair of free ovaries. Corolla yellowish-white, 10-15 mm, pubescent; tube as long as limb, strongly gibbous. Berry red when ripe, 5-7 mm, compound, puberulent. Fl. 6-7. Rocky slopes, Spiraea and Quercus scrub, 800-2500 m.
