Annual or biennial, or possibly sometimes short-lived perennial, with many stems usually 10-30 cm. Basal leaves up to 5 x 0,4 cm, often withered before flowering, stem leaves up to 1,5 x 0,3 cm; stipules auriculate on one side. Flowers 0,7-1,2 mm on short distinct slender pedicels. Sepals green or dark purplish, with a white scarious margin. Fruit equalling or slightly exceeding the sepals.
W., C. & S. Europe; Palestine, N., tropical and S. Africa.
