Erect annual herb, unbranched or branched only at the base, usually glabrous, sometimes with glandular indumentum on the lower internodes, 4-14. cm. Flowers solitary along the branches, or in terminal fascicles of 2-3. Calyx narrowly campanulate, 10-11 x 1-2 mm, glabrous, the nerves only slightly prominent and without distinct intercostal membranes. Petals linear-oblanceolate, 10-12 mm, pink with darker markings, divided at the tip into 4 ± equal, triangular teeth. Capsules c. 10 mm, shorter than the calyx. Fl. 5. Hillsides, volcanic cinders, s.l.-800 m.
