Tufted perennial, 5-15 cm, glabrous to sparsely hairy below, glandular pubescent above. Leaf-fascicles 1-1,5 cm, often curved, with slightly fleshy to setaceous leaves; stem leaves often recurved, ± falcate. Inflorescence rather lax, 3-12-flowered; bracts 5-7-veined, with a narrow hyaline margin, less than 0,3 mm wide; pedicels 4-10 mm. Sepals 4-5 mm, ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, all 5-9-veined. Petals obovate, c. 1.5 x longer than sepals. Capsule as long as or a little longer than calyx. Seeds obscurely tuberculate throughout. Fl. 5-7. Stony places, 800-2200 m.
N. Greece and Bulgaria . Subsp.hirsuta, which is densely glandular-hirsute throughout, is endemic to the Crimea and subsp. frutescens Hand.-Mazz., with long, straight leaf-fascicles and fine, straight leaves occurs in Hungary and Romania.
