Densely tufted, glabrous to glandular-pubescent perennial, sometimes apparently short-lived, 5-10 cm, with numerous flowering stems and dense leaf fascicles. Leaves 5-10 mm, subulate-setaceous. Inflorescence 3-6-flowered; bracts broadly triangular; pedicels 5-12 mm. Sepals ovate, acute, 3-veined. Petals ovate-elliptic to suborbic.; abruptly contracted at base into a short claw, slightly longer than sepals.FI. 7-8Pastures, ascending to 2750 m.
N., C. & S. Europe, C. & E. Asia, N. America. An extremely variable species needing further study.
