Annual. Stems ascending to erect, 7-30 cm, crisply pubescent below, often glandular above.Lower leaves petiolate, oblong-spathulate to orbicular, acute or obtuse or cuspidate; cauline leaves oblong-ovate to oblong-elliptic; all crisply puberulent to glabrous. Inflorescence a lax, compound dichasium, 9- or more flowered, the alar flower erect, often functionally female. Calyx 13-18mm, frequently purplish, somewhat inflated in fruit, glandular-puberulent. Petals pink, auriculate, retuse to emarginate. Anthophore 7-11mm, glabrous. Capsule ovoid oblong, included in the calyx.
