Stems up to 90 cm, erect, glabrous below, often slightly hairy above, viscid at the nodes. Leaves mostly basal, linear to lanceolate to oblanceolate, acute, ciliate at the base, otherwise glabrous. Inflorescence a many-flowered panicle of opposite dichasia. Calyx sparsely puberulent to glabrous, 6-15 mm. Petals purplish, the limb entire. Anthophore 3 mm or more.
Circumarctic; most of Europe, Siberia, Turkestan.
