Corm 5-7 x 4-6 cm, ovoid to subglobose; outer tunics dark, dull brown, inner pale, dull brown, coriaceous, apex produced into a persistent, somewhat fibrous neck to 24 cm. Leaves 3-4, hysteranthous, erecto-patent, ovate to elliptic-ovate, 30-35 x 13-15.5 cm, subacute to bluntly acuminate, strongly plicate, glabrous. Flowers 1-4, rotate. Perianth segments lilac-purple to rosy-purple, tessellated, often paler or white in throat, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, 4.5-7 x 1.5-3 cm, obtuse to acute, glabrous. Filaments 2-2.5 cm, glabrous; anthers purple, 8-12 x 1.5 mm; pollen grey-green, drying paler. Styles shortly curved at apex, stigmas decurrent for 1.5-2.5 mm. Capsule ovoid, 4-5 x 2-2.5 cm, mid-brown, glabrous, rostrate. Fl. 9-10. Open rocky ground at edge of Pinus woods, Abies forest, 200-250 m.
