Leaves linear to oblong, 3-8 mm, terete, blunt, sessile, on sterile shoots densely imbricate, on flowering stems more lax and sometimes absent below the inflorescences. Inflorescence dense, cymose, 4-7-flowered. Flowers 5-merous, pedicellate; sepals c. 3 mm; petals white tinged with red, to deep pink, 3-4.5 mm; stamens 10; follicles erect, glabrous with sessile glands. Fl. 6-8. Snow beds, rock depressions,etc.,1700-3400 m.
