Delicate, diffuse, annual herbs, up to 10 cm. Leaves obovate or spathulate, in opposite pairs, 2-8 x 1-2 mm, with minute membranous triangular stipules. Flowers solitary, 4-merous, on slender pedicels much exceeding the adjacent leaves. Sepals greenish, obtuse, 1-2 mm. Petals similar but whitish. Stamens 8. Capsule 1-1,5 mm in diameter. Seeds inrolled. In or beside water.
