Dwarf cushion-forming shrub. Stems erect, 5-30 cm, bifurcate-sericeous. Leaves up to 15 cm, imparipinnate, rachis becoming spiny with early loss of terminal leaflet; leaflets 5-15 mm, ovate to elliptic, acute or obtuse, mucronate, both surfaces sparsely bifurcate-sericeous, sometimes glabrescent above, 7-10-paired; stipules 5-10 mm, triangular-lanceolate, glabrous but ciliate. Peduncles sparsely adpressed-hairy, exceeding leaves. Flowers in a 6-18-flowered raceme, dense at first, elongating with age. Bracts 4-10 mm, linear-lanceolate. Bracteoles 1-4 mm, linear-lanceolate. Calyx 8-11 mm, tubular, with very sparse, black and white adpressed-bifurcate hairs; teeth 1,5-4 mm. Corolla white, cream or pale yellow, often flushed pink with age; standard 18-25 mm. Legumes 13-15 x 4-5 mm, ovate-oblong, glabrous, wrinkled, mucronate. Fl. 5-6. Steppe, fields, woods, cliffs, 1000-1800 m.
