Erect, sparsely pubescent or glabrous perennial. Stems not winged, 20-40 cm. Leaves pinnate, aristate; leaflets 2-3-paired, ovate, acuminate, 35-70 x 15-35 mm ; stipules ovate-oblong, semi-sagittate, much broader than stem. Peduncles as long as leaves or shorter, 3-7-flowered. Flowers purple, becoming bluish, 15-18 mm. Calyx 7-10 mm, gibbous; teeth very unequal, the lowest lanceolate, ± equal to tube. Legumes linear, 35-60 x 5-8 mm, glabrous and eglandular. Seeds 8-14, smooth. Fl. 4-5. Forests, scrub, rock ledges, 60-1400 m.
Most of Continental Europe, extending to E. Siberia. Euro-Sib. element.
