Shortly hairy annual, 20-80 cm. Leaflets 20-50 x 2-4 mm, flat, linear to linear-spathulate. Racemes in fruit 10-20 cm. Flowers alternate. Corolla 11-13 mm, blue. Upper lip of calyx bipartite. Legume 35-60 x 8-13 mm, shortly hirsute, yellow to black. Seeds 6-7 mm, smooth, variegated. Fl. 3-5. Light sandy soils, s.I.-100 m.
S. Europe, Cyprus, N. Africa, W. Syria. Widely cultivated and perhaps not native over the whole of its range.
