Intricately branched shrub forming spiny cushions or tufts up to 60 cm diam. and up to 50 cm high. Leaves with 2-5 pairs of linear or linear-lanceolate leaflets, with a sericeous or spreading-pilose indumentum on both surfaces; stipules adnate, scarious. Peduncles shorter than or subequalling leaves. Inflorescence 2-5-flowered. Calyx 4,5-6 mm including 2-2,5 mm subequal teeth. Corolla reddish purple, lavender, white or pink; standard cuneate or ± clawed, 12-15 mm; wings 10-14 mm; keel 12-16 mm. Ovary glabrous or pilose. Fruit 9-13 mm long, glabrous or hirtulous, semi-orbicular, compressed, crested. Fl. 5-7. Rocky slopes and screes, 1200-3100 m.
