Low, straggling shrub, the stems with hooked, spiny outgrowths, 30-100 cm. Leaf pinnae 3-5-paired, each with 8-12 pairs of leaflets. Inflorescence 25-40 x 4-6 mm, 50-flowered or more. Flowers c. 2 mm. Fruit 12-30 x10-15 mm, ovoid to oblong, curved, swollen, dark brown. Fl. 6. Dry waste places, dunes, etc., s.l.-1450m.
