Annual or biennial; stem 10-50 cm with a marcescent basal leaf rosette and ± branched from lower part, branches erect. Rosette leaves ovate; cauline elliptic to lanceolate. Inflorescence branches spike-like, glabrous. Flowers 12-14 mm. Calyx equalling corolla tube. Corolla pink, rarely white, lobes 3-4,5 mm. Fl. 7-8. Salt marshes, sand dunes, weed in cultivated land, s.l.-1070 m.
