Stems 10-20 cm. Leaves on main stem 5-13 mm, narrowly elliptic-oblong to linear, acute, those on short axillary strobiloid shoots c. 0·5 mm, broadly ovoid, densely crowded. Sepals 2-3,5 mm, oblong to lanceolate, acute, entire. Petals 5-8 mm, oblanceolate. Capsule 6-8 mm, ovoid-cylindric to cylindric. Fl. 8. Dry clearings in Pinus thickets, etc., 1200-1600 m.
Probably endemic; this very distinctive species has never been collected in Iran since Olivier's time, and his specimen could have come from Anatolia.
