Stems 10-110 cm, erect, sometimes rooting, 2-lined, with branches ± ascending. Leaves 5-35 mm, narrowly ovate or lanceolate to elliptic-oblong or linear, occasionally oblanceolate, sessile or subsessile, plane, always with large pellucid dots. Sepals lanceolate to oblong or elliptic, acute to acuminate or shortly aristate, entire, without or with a few superficial black dots. Petals 8-15 mm, with a few marginal black dots and sometimes superficial black streaks. Capsule 5-9 mm, ovoid to pyramidal, with dorsal vittae and lateral vesicles. Fl. 5-8. Dry habitats in mesophytic regions, near water elsewhere, s.I.-2500 m.
