Iris schachtii

Plant 7-25 cm. Leaves 1-2 cm broad, falcate or straight, acute, greyish-green. Stem simple or 1-branched. Bract and bracteole inflated-navicular, 2.5-5 cm, membranous, pale green or tinged purple. Flowers 2-several, yellow with brown or green veining on lower part of segments, or dull purple, or bicoloured yellow with lamina of falls brownish, occasionally yellow suffused purple; beard yellow or white tipped with yellow; perianth tube 1.5-2 cm; falls oblanceolate, cuneate at base, 5-6.5 x 1.8-3 cm; standards broadly oblanceolate or broadly elliptic, 3.7-6.5 x 2-4.2 cm, abruptly narrowed to a short narrow claw; style branches 34 x 0.8-1.1 cm, with acute lobes 0.5-0.7 x 0.30.5 cm. Capsule ellipsoid, 2.5-4.5 x 2-2.5 cm. Fl. 5 -6. Light mixed woodland or scrub, open stony hills, 1200-1700 m.
