Stems erect, usually branched twice in upper 1/2, robust, 27-40 cm. Basal leaves orbicular to broadly elliptic, petiolate, lamina 6-18 x 5-17 cm, coarsely crenate-dentate, veins impressed on upper surface, lower surface thickly lanate; cauline similar, sessile. Calyx broadly campanulate-rotate, sparsely pubescent, limb 2-2.5 cm diam. at anthesis, accrescent to 4 cm diam, in fruit, reticulate-veined, membranous. Corolla pale lemon-yellow with orange-yellow to buff-orange lower lip, 18-30 mm; hood pubescent to villous outside, whitish-bearded within; lower lip with triangular-cordate middle lobe and ovate-elliptic lateral lobes. Fl. 5-6. Steppe, limestone hills, shaly and igneous slopes, nr s.l.-2130 m.
Syrian Desert, Caucasia, N., N.W. & W. Iran, C. Asia to Mongolia. Ir.-Tur. element. The fruiting calyx is wind-dispersed.
