Perennial; stems erect from a woody rootstock, 50-80 cm, softly adpressed-pilose, eglandular throughout. Leaves greyish, narrowly oblong-lanceolate, 1.5-7 x 1-2 cm, subentire or finely crenulate, pilose-tomentose and with sessile glands, truncate or cuneate. Petiole ± absent or to 2 cm. Inflorescence paniculate or unbranched; verticillasters to c. 30-flowered, condensed into a terminal oblong spike, 4-11 cm. Bracteoles linear-filiform, setose-plumose, equal to or longer than calyces. Calyx tubular, 10-12 mm, ± densely eglandular-tomentose with or without scattered glandular papillae; mouth slightly oblique; teeth 6-8 mm, filiform, ± subulate. Corolla white or purplish-pink, 13-15 mm, tube scarcely longer than calyx teeth. Nutlets broadly oblong, rounded trigonous, 1.4 x 1 mm, tuberculate. Fl. 7-8. Rocky slopes, macchie, in open deciduous woodland, dried riverbed, 1100-1700 m.
