Shrub to 10-40 cm. Flowering stems ascending or erect, simple or sometimes divaricately branched, recurved-pubescent mainly on two opposite sides. Leaves linear to linear-lanceolate, obtuse, glabrous or sparsely ciliate towards base. Inflorescence ovate to oblong-attenuate, 1-8 cm, usually dense . Bracts lanceolate, usually shortly ciliate. Bracteoles similar but acute-acuminate, densely long-ciliate, purplish, 1.5-2 x calyx. Calyx 4-6 mm, becoming purplish-brown and deciduous in fruit. Corolla purple, mauve or pink, 12-16 mm, glandular-punctate. Fl. 6-7.
