Shrublet; basal parts woody, to 2 cm diam. Flowering stems slender, ascending, 12-20 cm, quadrangular, hairy along the four angles or on two opposite sides with weak, recurved hairs. Cauline leaves 14-18 x 2-4 mm, narrowly lanceolate to linear-oblanceolate, glabrous, oil dots inconspicuous, colourless; lateral veins weak, margins flat, entire or remotely and shallowly denticulate, sparsely ciliate towards base. Inflorescence capitate, c. 2 x 2 cm. Bracts to 17 x 8 mm, ovate, acuminate, with 4-5 pairs of pale lateral veins, often purplish, glabrous or shortly hairy especially along veins, margins ciliate to near apex. Bracteoles minute, much shorter than 2-4 mm pedicels. Calyx 6-7 mm, pubescent, oil dots minute, colourless; tube ± cylindrical, shorter than lips; upper lip longer than lower, ovate, twice as wide as tube, upper teeth c. 1 mm, subulate, irregularly ciliate. Corolla rose, to 10 mm. Stamens exserted; filaments purple, sparsely hairy. Fl. 6-7. Macchie, open Pinus brutia woodland, 500-915 m.
