Annual, ± hispid. Stems 4-15 cm, simple to much-branched. Leaves linear-lanceolate to elliptic below, ovate-acuminate above, uppermost broadly ovate. Inflorescence a globose terminal head, partly enclosed by broadly ovate bracts. Calyx 8-11 mm, pilose to hispid. Corolla Violet, purple or lavender , 10-13 mm. Fl. 4·8. Dry open places, stony slopes, rocky outcrops, steppe, nr s.l.-2200 m.
