Annual, shortly hispid. Stems 5-20 cm, usually branched at each node. Leaves linear-lanceolate to narrowly elliptic. Inflorescence a dense subcapitate ovoid terminal spike. Lowest bracts similar to leaves or broader; upper narrower and shorter. Calyx 8-10 mm. Corolla lavender or pale blue, 10-12 mm, similar in shape to that of Z. tenuior. Fl. 5-7. Steppe, gravel terraces, roadsides, fallow fields, dry slopes, 730-1750 m.
