Bulb to 2 cm diam. Stem 4-35 cm, smooth. Leaves 6-7, shining green; lowest 3.5-8 x 0.7-2.5 cm, ovate to lanceolate, usually subopposite, rest alternate. Flowers solitary, very broadly campanulate, tessellated dark reddish-purple outside, yellowish green with reddish-purple tessellations inside; perianth segments 3.5-5 cm, outer 1-1.5 cm broad,inner 1.5-2 cm broad, ovate, usually obtuse or rounded, incurved at apex. Nectaries 3-4 x 1-2 mm, narrowly ovate to 1anceo1ate, at angle of bell, c. 10mm above base of perianth, deeply impressed. Filaments 10-15 mm, smooth, flattened at base. Style 10-15 mm, 3-fid; branches 2-5 mm, smooth. Capsule not winged. Fl. 5-7. Grassy places in Pinus zone and above, 1800-3000 m.
