Bulb usually surrounded with thickened roots, new bulb forming beside old. Basal leaves 2, linear, 6-16 x 0.2-0.4 cm, exceeding inflorescence, flat, glabrous or hairy. Inflorescence umbellate, 4-12 cm, glabrous or pubescent. Cauline leaves opposite or subopposite, linear-lanceolate, 5-8 mm broad, equalling or exceeding flowers, ciliate, usually with bunches of blackish leafy bulbils in their axils. Flowers 2-11. Pedicels densely woolly, elongating during anthesis, to 6 cm. Perianth segments yellow, narrowly ovate to oblanceolate, 10-18 x 34 mm, hairy outside, especially at base. Capsule ovoid. Fl. 2-5. Steppe, limestone cliffs, rocky slopes, scrub and open woods, 400-2100 m.
