Slender plant. 8-15 cm tall. Spike fairly lax. with an average of 2 to 6 flowers, Flowers 10-18 x 10-14 mm. Sepals 13-18 x 5-8 mm. ovate-lanceolate to broadly ovate, yellowish to yellowish-green, dorsal sepal strongly curved over forwards: two laterals spreading to slightly bent forwards. Petals 7-9 x 1-3 mm, oblong-lanceolate, yellowish-green, margins wavy and tinged with brown, bent forwards. Labellum very flat, dark brown to blackish-violet. margins often with a very broad, pale yellow or reddish-brown border, 3-lobed, grooved at base , fairly densely pubescent and without protuberances. Speculum consisting of two separate oval patches coloured intensely dark blue to grey. Fl. 3-4. Open pinewoods, macchie, phrygana. olive groves and poor grasslund; on calcareous soils, s.l.-400m.
