Stems ascending-erect, often branched, sparsely hispid-setose below. Leaves 2-3 x pinnate, the segments of the lower leaves lanceolate-triangular, those of the upper leaves linear-Ianceolate. Buds globose, sepals hispid. Petals 10-20 mm, red to crimson, with a black blotch at the base. Capsule elliptic-globose,densely setose, the setae, when mature, arcuate-erect from a reflexed base. Fl. 4-5. Cultivated ground from s.l.-1000 m.
