Differs from R. hybrida in its petals which are red with black blotches at the base, the filaments of the stamens dilated,the capsule attenuate at the apex, glabrous except for 4 setae which extend above and between the stigma lobes. Fl. 6.

Subsp. occidentalis
Differs from subsp. refracta in its sepal margins with very short branched hairs. Subsp, occidentalis tends to be a smaller plant, with only a few specimens taller than 30 cm.
