Annual, 3-8 cm. Leaves 30-85 x 2-4 mm, linear-lanceolate, hirsute, villous or pilose. Scapes 0.5-1 cm, much shorter than leaves, arcuate, recurved, pilose or villous, often yellowish-brown, thickened in fruit so that plant becomes a tumbleweed. Spike 5-8 mm, ovoid-globose. Lower bracts 6-6.5 mm, lanceolate-ovate, upper margin and keel very long pilose; upper bracts c. 4.5 mm, ± equal to sepals. Anterior sepals c. 3.5 mm, elliptic, somewhat obtuse, keel broad, midrib distinct; posterior c. 3 mm, broadly orbicular-elliptic, membranous. Corolla tube broad, lobes rotund-ovate, shortly acuminate. Apex of anthers broad, membranous. Capsule globose. Seeds 2, c. 1.5-2 mm. Fl. 4-5. Limestone rocks and slopes, dry pasture, sandy and waste places, ruins, s.l.-600m.
