Differs from V. bozakmanii mainly by stems unbranched or slightly branched above; leaves usually narrower, oblong-lanceolate, entire; all bracts entire; fruiting pedicels 4-7 mm, patent, 1-1,5 x bracts, strongly hooked upwards below fruit, with glandular hairs 0,2-0,3 mm, 3-4-celled; style 0,8-1 mm, ½  x sinus of capsule; capsule 2,5-3 x 5,5-6,5 mm, sinus usually at an angle of c. 90°; seeds c. 8-12, 1,5-1,9 x1-1,2 mm, ventrally with a large elevated chalazal podium, seed therefore slightly winged, dorsally rugose in centre. Fl. 4-6. Steppe, streamsides, marshy places,  fields and fallows, 800-2500 m.
