Perennial. Stems erect, branched, to 100 cm. Leaves glaucescent, margin glandular-dentate to smooth; lower and median leaves broadly elliptic or obovate to broadly lanceolate, 40-70 x 20-40 mm, petiolate, upper lanceolate to linear, 15-35 x 3-10 mm, sessile, auriculate, becoming gradually smaller and finally passing into bracts. Flowers sessile. Calyx tubular, 6-10 mm, 5-triangulardentate. Corolla violet-rose, tube 2-3 x calyx; limb rotate. Styles hairy to middle. Fl. 7-9. Dry gravelly slopes, limestone and igneous slopes, fallow fields, waste places, 10-1900 m.
