Laxly caespitose perennial, with extravaginal rhizomes. Stems 76-90 cm, erect, robust, glabrous, usually 2-noded. Leaf sheaths glabrous to pubescent at base; blades 7-24 cm x 1.5-2.5 mm, linear, acuminate, glabrous, green to glaucous, occasionally rough on margins. Panicle 12-13.5 x 3.5-5 cm, pyramidal, lax; branches 2.5-4.5 cm, patent; pedicels 0.7-2.5 mm, pubescent. Spikelets 6-7.3 mm, with 3-4 florets. Glumes unequal, shorter than florets, lanceolate, acute, green or pale brown, glabrous or scabrid; lower 3.5-4 mm, upper 5-5.3 mm. Lemma 5.5-5.8 mm, lanceolate, acuminate to shortly: aristate, glabrous to pubescent. Palea nearly as long as lemma. Anthers 2-2.5 mm. Fl. 7. Igneous scree, c. 2000 m.
