Glabrescent herb, 50-70 cm. Leaves palmatisect, segments incised or laciniate. Inflorescence often branched below, racemes rather lax and short. Bracteoles borne on the upper part of the glabrous pedicels. Flowers violet-blue. Sepals glabrous, helmet 20-30 mm from base to crown, 8-16 mm from sinus to crown, produced into a narrowly triangular beak, sinus arched. Petals ± erect, limb half as long as claw, spur broadly saccate or circinate, much shorter than limb. Fl. 8. Stream sides, scrub and among rocks.
