Erect bushy shrub, up to 2 m, or sometimes prostrate. Leaves orbicular to ovate, up to 4 x 3 cm, on short shoots with obtuse or mucronate apices, on long shoots with acute apices, rounded at base, dull green and glabrous or, with a few scattered hairs above, persistently greyish-tomentose beneath; petioles 2-4 mm. Inflorescence a short cyme, 2-3-flowered. Petals pink, erect. Pedicels and calyx glabrous or almost so. Fruit red, subglobose, 6-8 mm diam., glabrous; pyrenes 3. Fl. 6. Dry stony slopes, in scrub or in open woodland, 1600-3400 m.
