Erect perennial, 40-80 cm. Root bearing ovoid tubers. Stem simple, glabrous with a few leaves. Basal leaves with 8-25 pairs of large leaflets; large leaflets 0,5-2 cm, glabrous, ciliate on the margin, pinnatifid and narrowly toothed. Inflorescence 4-10 cm, wider than long. Sepals 1-15 mm, reflexed after flowering. Petals 6 or sometimes 5, 4-9 mm, purplish beneath, clawed. Achenes 3-4 mm, erect, pubescent. Fl. 5-7. Dry grassland, s.l.-1950 m.
