Erect perennial, 10-45 cm. Basal leaves lyrate, 5-25 cm with 2-4 pairs of lateral leaflets; terminal leaflet 2-8 cm, orbicular-reniform, serrate; laterals much smaller. Cauline leaves simple. Inflorescence a 2-4-flowered cyme. Flowers erect. Epicalyx segments lanceolate, 3-4 mm; sepals 8-10 mm, deflexed after flowering. Petals orange-red, obcordate, 10-18 mm with a short claw. Achenes c. 100, 3-4 mm; rostrum 5-8 mm, basal part hairy. Carpophore absent. Fl. 5-7. Marshy slopes and in damp forests. 1200-2400 m.
