Erect perennial, 20-50 cm. Basal leaves lyrate, 15-35 cm; terminal leaflet 3-11 cm, obtuse at base, crenate-serrate, usually lobed; laterals much smaller. Cauline leaves 4sually 3-partite. Inflorescence a 2-4-flowered cyme. Flowers erect. Epicalyx segments lanceolate, 2-3 mm. Sepals 4,5-6 mm. Petals yellow, obovate, 4-7 mm, without claws. Achenes usually less than 100, 3-6 mm; rostrum 5-10 mm, glabrous. Carpophore absent. Fl. 5-7. Shady banks ofstreams and lakes, and in forests, s.l.-1700 m.
