Annual herb. Stems 25-50 cm, glabrous. Leaves mostly in whorls of 6, lowermost linear-lanceolate, upper linear, 5-15 x 0.5-1 mm, somewhat scabrous, bluish-green. Spikes 2-8 cm, upper sessile, lower shortly pedunculate, erect and ± adpressed to main axis. Bracts lanceolate, 5-9 x 1.5-2 mm, acute to acuminate, carinate, with broad hyaline margins, vein and adjacent green area 1/3 of bract breadth, cilio1ate on margins and keel. Flowers 4-merous; corolla pale yellowish, 3-5 mm, not exceeding bracts. Fruits finely granulate. Fl. 6-8. Open forests and macchie, stony hillsides, s.l.-1600 m.
