Scrambling perennial, Stems 60-120 cm, flaccid, quadrangular, retrorsely aculeolate on angles, branched. Leaves in whorls of 6-8, 30-40 x 4-10 mm, oblong-elliptic to broadly elliptic or oblanceolate to linear-lanceolate, cuspidate or mucronate at apex, attenuate at base, rather rough above and retrorsely aculeolate on margins. Inflorescence lax, with coryrnbiform long pedunculate partial inflorescences. Pedicels 0.5-3 mm, spreading, glabrous, rarely pubescent. Corolla white, infundibular, 1.2-1.5 mm, with broadly ovate lobes, equalling tube or only slightly shorter. Anthers elliptic to oblong, 0.2-0.4 mm. Mericarps 1.5-1.7 mm, coarsely granulate, glabrous. Fl. 6-8. Damp scrub and river banks, s.l.-2300 m.
