Slender annual, 5-25 cm. Stems several from common base, erect to ascending, rather stiff, simple, rarely branched above, quadrangular, retrorsely scabrid on angles towards base or throughout, somewhat hirsute above or ± glabrous. Leaves in whorls of 4-6, upper usually in pairs, 4-8 x 0.8-2.5 mm, lanceolate-oblong or elliptic, rarely ovate, acute to shortly acuminate, with rather inconspicuous hyaline apex, shortly hirsute above or sometimes glabrous, antrorsely scabrid along midrib and the ± revolute margins beneath, becoming reflexed, Inflorescence narrowly cylindrical, leafy, consisting of condensed 2-20-flowered verticillasters. Peduncles inconspicuous or absent. Pedicels to c. 2 mm, suberect to divaricate, hirsute or glabrous. Corolla yellowish, cup-shaped, c. 0.5-1.5 mm diam., with lobes ovate, acute, usually glabrous or hairy outside. Mericarps oblong-reniform, c. 1 mm, papillose-granulate, hirsute, with uncinate setae or sometimes glabrous. Fl. 4-6. Stony slopes, rocky steppe, 250-1800 m.
