Annual or perennial herb. Stems procumbent, ascending to erect, 15-30 cm, branched. Leaves linear, sometimes scale-like at base, 5-30 x 0.5-1.5 mm. Inflorescence a panicle with divaricate, 1-3-flowered lateral cymes or a raceme. Bracts 4-6 x as long as nut, bracteoles 1/2 as long as to slightly longer than nut. Perianth creamy-white, broadly campanulate, 1.75-2 mm, lobes triangular, c. 0.5 mm. Fruit 2-3 x 1.75-2.5 mm; nut ovoid to subglobose, strongly reticulately-nerved, glossy, persistent perianth 1/5-1/6 x as long as nut, pedicel unthickened. Fl. 5-7. Woods, phrygana , rocky slopes, etc., s.l-1800 m.
