Biennial, 50-100 cm, sparsely tomentose, ± glabrescent, eglandular. Stem terete or obscurely angular above, branched. Basal leaves oblong-obovate, 10-30 x 3-12 cm, deeply and irregularly crenate and usual1y pinnately lobed towards shortly cuneate base, persistently tomentose beneath, glabrescent above, petiole 4-10 cm; lower and middle cauline coarsely crenate, lobed below, upper ovate to cordate, dentate, acuminate-caudate. Inflorescence branched, lax, with clusters of 1-6 flowers. Bracts ovate-cordate to lanceolate. Pedicels to 10 mm; bracteoles lanceolate. Calyx 2·5-4 mm, lobes Iinear-Ianceolate. Corol1a yel1ow, 15-22 mm diam., without pel1ucid glands, stellate-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool up to anthers. Capsule ellipsoid to subglobose, 3-4,5 x 2,5-3 mm, stellate-tomentose, glabrescent. Fl. 5-6. Coastal sands, waste places.
