Biennial, 50-200 cm, with very fine, adpressed, yellowish stellate-tomentose indumentum, often ± glabrescent. Stem robust, terete, finely striate, branched above. Basal leaves lanceolate to broadly lanceolate, entire or obscurely crenulate, acutish to acuminate, petiole 2-7 cm; middle and upper cauline ovate to ovate-triangular, acute to acuminate, broadly auriculate and shortly decurrent at base. Inflorescence usually with numerous branches, forming  broadly ovate or pyramidal panicle, with loose clusters of 3-7 flowers. Bracts ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, acuminate. Pedicels to 4 mm; bracteoles minute. Calyx 3-4 mm, cleft to ½  into linear-lanceolate, acute lobes. Corolla yellow, 15-20 mm diam., without pellucid glands, tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool up to anthers. Capsule oblong, 4-5 x 2-2,5 mm, tomentose, glabrescent. Fl. 5-7. Pinus, forest Quercus scrub, macchie, s.l-1350 m.
