Biennial, 60-100 cm, yellowish- or greyish-tomentose below, glabrous and sparsely glandular above. Stem terete, usually branched from base. Basal leaves oblong to obovate-elliptic, 12-17 x 6-7,5 cm, entire or indistinctly crenulate, petiole 6-7 cm; cauline similar but smaller. Inflorescence lax, branched, forming oblong panicle. Bracts oblong-lanceolate, acute. Pedicels 1-2,5 mm, ebracteolate. Calyx 3-5 mm, lobes spathulate or oblong-linear. Corolla yellow, 20-30 mm diam., without pellucid glands, glabrous outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform; filaments with purple-violet wool, 2 anterior glabrous near apex. Capsule oblong cylindrical, 5 x 3-3,5 mm, glabrous. Fl. 5. Quercus brantii scrub, stony slopes, cornfields, fallow fields, 400-1000 m.
