Biennial, 50-100 cm, shortly and densely grey- or yellow-tomentose, often glabrescent. Stem terete or winged by decurrent leaves, mostly branched from base. Basal leaves spathulate-oblong, 4-35 x 2-15 cm, incised-lobed or pinnatifid, often ± undulate, sessile or shortly petiolate, petiole rarely to 4 cm; cauline decurrent or not, upper coarsely dentate or subentire, oblong-ovate or cordate-ovate, acute. Inflorescence lax, with numerous branches forming broad panicle, sometimes with subsessile glands, with clusters of 1-7 flowers. Bracts broadly cordate-triangular, mucronate. Pedicels to 5 mm; bracteoles ovate. Calyx 2·5-5 mm, lobes ovate-Ianceolate, acute, with eglandular or glandular hairs. Corolla yellow, 15-30 mm diam., with pellucid glands, stellate-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform. filaments with purple-violet wool, 2 anterior glabrous near apex. Capsule broadly elliptic or subglobose, 3-5 x 2,5-4 mm, tomentose. 2n=30. Fl. 5-10. Roadsides, fallow fields, steppe, coastal sands, s.l.-1100 m.

Biennial, 30-100 cm, grey or yellowish short stellate-tomentose, eglandular. Stem terete, branched. Basal leaves sessile or shortly petiolate, lamina oblong-spathulate, 15-35 x 5-13 cm, often ± undulate, repand to crenate-dentate or shortly lobed above, lobed or pinnatifid below middle; cauline small, upper sessile, cordate-lanceolate or lanceolate-linear, acute or acuminate, denticulate or entire. Inflorescence lax, forming a loose oblong panicle; flowers in distant clusters of 2-6. Bracts ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate-linear, acuminate. Pedicels to 5 mm, with 2 minute, lanceolate bracteoles. Calyx 2-4 mm, lobes lanceolate-linear to linear, acute. Corolla yellow, 12-20 mm diam., with pellucid glands, stellate-tomentellous outside. Stamens 4, anthers reniform, medifixed, filaments with purple-violet hairs, 2 anterior glabrous near apex. Capsule broadly elliptic, 2,5-4,5 x 2-4 mm, stellate-tomentose. Fl. 5-7.
